Why I Finally Took A Second Look At Ascott Star Rewards
Picture this. You’re sitting in a serviced apartment kitchen in Kuala Lumpur, the kettle is on, and you’ve just totted up the airline miles you “should” have earned across three trips this year. The number is depressingly small. Sound familiar?
That was me, until I went back through the small print on Ascott Star Rewards (ASR) — the loyalty programme that quietly sits behind Ascott, Citadines, lyf, Oakwood, Somerset and a long list of other apartment-style brands. As of late April 2026, ASR has rolled out its biggest refresh in years, and for those of us travelling regularly between Asia, Europe and Australia, the maths has genuinely shifted.
Pour yourself a coffee. Here’s what’s changed, what it means for travellers, and how I’d actually use it this year.

The Quick Answer (For Anyone In A Rush)
If you stay at any Ascott-family property more than twice a year, you should sign up for Ascott Star Rewards at DiscoverASR.com. The 2026 update brings five things worth knowing:
- KrisFlyer points-to-miles conversion — 20 ASR points = 1 KrisFlyer mile, minimum 5,000 points, capped at 50,000 points per year.
- Cathay Pacific joins the partner network from June 2026 — earn 500 Asia Miles per qualifying stay, with tier matching for Cathay Silver, Gold and Diamond members.
- Flight vouchers worth S$50, S$100 or S$200 across 640+ airlines via Trip.com from June 2026.
- Tours, attraction tickets and Chelsea FC matchday experiences can now be booked and redeemed with points from May 2026.
- “Fast Track to Free Nights” anniversary campaign — complete six qualifying nights between April and May 2026 to earn a free night (max two per member).
You also get free breakfast at Platinum tier in Europe (with China and Japan rolling out), free preview stays at newly opened properties, and a 20% dining discount for all members at participating hotels across Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
That’s the headline. Now let’s talk about whether it’s actually worth your time.

Who This Programme Is Genuinely For
I’ll be honest. Most hotel loyalty programmes don’t earn their keep unless you stay 30+ nights a year with one chain — and frankly, who wants to?
ASR is different because the brand portfolio is wide enough to catch how mature travellers actually move. A fortnight in Hobart at the new Citadines Elizabeth Street, a long weekend at lyf Chinatown Singapore, three weeks in KL with the grandkids in a Somerset apartment, a quiet four nights at Oakwood Cameron Highlands when the heat gets too much. They all stack into one account.
Crucially, these are apartment-style stays — kitchens, sofas, washing machines, room to breathe. If you’ve ever survived a fortnight in a 22-square-metre standard hotel room, you’ll appreciate why this matters past 50.

What Actually Changed In 2026 (And Why It Matters)
1. Your Hotel Points Finally Talk To Your Airline
For years, the gripe with hotel loyalty has been that points stayed locked inside the hotel. ASR has finally fixed that.
You can now convert ASR points to KrisFlyer miles at 20:1 — minimum 5,000 points, up to 50,000 per calendar year. That’s a meaningful chunk of a Singapore Airlines economy ticket out of a few decent stays. And because ASR still earns 500 KrisFlyer miles on every qualifying direct booking, you’re effectively double-dipping.
From June 2026, Cathay Pacific comes on board with 500 Asia Miles per qualifying stay and a tier match for Cathay Silver, Gold and Diamond members. If Cathay is your default carrier between Hong Kong, Australia and Europe, this is the kind of quiet administrative win that pays dividends fast.
Quick booking tip: Always book direct via DiscoverASR.com or the ASR app — third-party sites won’t trigger the points or miles. If you like to sanity-check the price through Booking.com first (I do), do that, then come back and book direct.
2. Flights, Tours and Premier League Football
This is where it gets interesting for those of us who travel for experiences as much as accommodation.
From June 2026, ASR points can be redeemed as flight vouchers (S$50, S$100, S$200) across more than 640 airlines via Trip.com — useful flexibility, especially for budget regional flights where you don’t otherwise care about miles.
From May 2026, you can also redeem points for Chelsea FC matchday experiences, selected ASR Local Signatures events, sporting fixtures, tours and attraction tickets. For the football fans among us, this is the legitimate, no-fuss route to a properly hosted afternoon at Stamford Bridge.
3. Free Breakfast, Preview Stays and 20% Off Dining
The everyday perks I personally use most:
- Platinum members now get complimentary breakfast at Ascott properties across Europe, with China and Japan rolling out shortly.
- Gold and Platinum members get exclusive preview stays at newly opened Ascott properties during their first month of opening — currently Oakwood Cameron Highlands, with lyf Chinatown Singapore and Citadines Elizabeth Street Hobart in the pipeline.
- All ASR members receive a 20% dining discount on buffet and à la carte menus at participating properties across Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. Genuinely useful when travelling with family or longer-stay groups.

4. The “Fast Track To Free Nights” Anniversary Campaign
Six qualifying nights across participating ASR properties between April and May 2026 earns one free night. You can stack up to two. Bookings can be combined across multiple stays, and you must book via DiscoverASR.com or the ASR app for them to count.
If you’ve got a trip already on the calendar this month, this is a quietly excellent reason to register before you check in.

How I’d Use ASR Right Now (My Honest Five-Step Plan)
- Sign up for ASR — it’s free, no annual fee.
- Link your KrisFlyer account straight away to start double-earning.
- Always book direct through DiscoverASR.com or the ASR app — never through an OTA if you want the points.
- Stack the Fast Track campaign by squeezing two trips inside the April–May window.
- Watch the new openings list for preview stays — Cameron Highlands is currently the easiest to grab from Asia.
That’s it. Five steps, ten minutes of admin, and a programme that pays back pretty consistently if you travel the way most people do.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ascott Star Rewards actually worth it if I only travel three or four times a year? For most expats and mature travellers, yes — and that’s a refreshingly honest answer for a hotel loyalty piece. Because ASR rewards stack across a wide portfolio (apartment hotels, serviced residences, lifestyle brands like lyf), even a handful of trips a year tends to earn meaningful free-night and breakfast value, especially with the 2026 KrisFlyer and Cathay Pacific upgrades layered on.
Do my points expire if I stop travelling for a while? ASR points are tied to qualifying activity, so the simplest way to keep them alive is to make a qualifying booking, redeem on a tour, or trigger a points-to-miles conversion every now and again. If you’re planning a quieter year, the points-to-KrisFlyer-miles conversion (5,000 points minimum) is a sensible way to lock in value before any expiry concerns.
What’s the practical difference between Gold and Platinum tier? Platinum delivers the more meaningful travel perks — complimentary breakfast at Ascott properties in Europe (with China and Japan rolling out), priority access to preview stays at newly opened properties, and richer in-room welcome gifts. Gold still unlocks preview stays and welcome gifts, just at a lower-tier offering. If you stay roughly 25+ nights a year across the Ascott family, Platinum starts to genuinely pay back.

Book Your Next Stay
If this article saved you some research time, the easiest way to put it into action is to register for ASR and book your next stay directly through DiscoverASR.com — particularly if you can squeeze a few qualifying nights in before the Fast Track campaign closes at the end of May.
For everything else I rely on alongside the stay itself: I use SafetyWing for travel insurance on longer Asia trips, DiscoverCars when I need a hire car at the destination, and Rail Europe for any trains in Europe that creep into the itinerary.
