If I’m being honest, this is where I’d point you first. I stayed at this hotel and genuinely loved it. My room had a balcony overlooking the water, which is a very good way to start the morning. The location is also hard to beat — you’re within easy walking distance of the J. & E. Riggin marina, the ferry terminal, and the bus station. In other words, whether you’re boarding a windjammer or arriving without a car, it’s incredibly convenient. In addition, there’s a laundry room on site with washing machines and dryers. Rockland Harbor Hotel
Also on the waterfront — and also where I’ve stayed — the Rockland Harbor Hotel is a solid alternative if the Harborline is full. It’s a proper hotel rather than a motel-style property, with a slightly different layout and feel. If you’re torn between Rockland and Camden, both are excellent — but they have different energies. Camden is postcard-pretty and a touch more upscale. Personally, I’d stay in Rockland and day-trip to Camden — it’s an easy 15-minute drive.

Is it better to stay in Rockland or Camden?
It depends on your priorities. Rockland has more affordable options and a grittier, more working-harbour feel. Camden, on the other hand, is prettier and more polished. If you’re boarding a windjammer out of Rockland, staying in Rockland is the obvious call. For leisure-focused trips, Camden has a strong case — but base yourself in Rockland and you can easily do both.
How far is Rockland from Portland Maine?
About 80 miles north of Portland via Route 1 — roughly 90 minutes by car. As a result, it makes a great two-night add-on to a Portland trip. I’d strongly recommend it.
