Whether you have a few hours to spare while you are waiting for your flight at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport or you have an overnight stay, you will be surprised at how much there is do near Tullamarine Airport. This guide includes everything you need for a day trip around the Tullamarine area and includes hotel suggestions.
Most people choose to sit and wait the hours away inside the terminal, but not me. I would instead explore wherever I am in the world, even if I only have a few hours at my disposal, so if you are like me and are ready to explore, keep reading because here is all you need to know about Tullamarine Australia.
Tullamarine Airport is not the only Melbourne Airport. Still, it is the most significant domestic airport and the only international airport in Melbourne, so it is fair to say when you are flying into Melbourne, this is the airport that you will most likely be landing in.
You will find the information services on the ground floor of the International Terminal. Travellers’ information services (TIS) are worth a stop because they have everything you need, from sim cards to discounted attraction tickets. It is also an excellent place for information about transportation services.
If you would like to rent a car, Melbourne City is only 30 minutes drive away, and everything else mentioned in this article is within 20 minutes of the airport.

Five Great Reasons to explore the Tullamarine Area
Learn to surf
I know we are miles from any beaches, but only minutes from the airport, you can learn to surf at the city’s most recent attraction. Urban Surf has it all, from hiring your board to teaching you how to surf all within the safety of well-equipped professionals.
If you aren’t up for a bit of surfing, then play in the lagoon, where you will spend up to 2 hours swimming or riding soft boards. A little something for everyone. Sunday – Thursday: 6 am – 10 pm, Friday & Saturday: 6 am-midnight.
Shop for some great bargains.
Suppose you want a bargain with some great brands; head over to DFOÂ (direct factory outlet), where sales are every day. You will find DFO at 100 Bulla Rd, Essendon, Moonee Valley, Victoria 3041.
You can catch public transport, but an uber or driving is by far the quickest and easiest way. Opening hours are from 10 am to 6 pm daily but get there early if it’s a public holiday or general holiday season; it can get busy.
Have Lunch at a Winery.
Yes, this area has it all. A short 16-minute drive away, you will find one of the prettiest places to have lunch. Marnong Estate (accommodation also available) has both casual and fine dining. Book online if you want to sit inside and enjoy a set menu (dress code applies), or sit outside and eat amongst nature with the cafe serving everything from pizza to picnic foods.
It is a beautiful place to have lunch, visit the cellar door or spend the entire day just enjoying that fantastic view.
Watch a Movie
The closest Westfield is only a 7-minute drive away and can be found at 29 – 35 Louis St, Airport West. Spend a lazy day watching a movie, having lunch at one of the cafes or the food court and browsing the many stores. If you are visiting with kids, then Playworld is free for everyone (but a parent must supervise children at all times).Â
Try an authentic horseriding experience.
Travel just 5 minutes from Melbourne’s International Airport and find Woodlands trail riding. There are riding lessons, horseback tours, and pony rides that you can book online. So whether you are an experienced rider or a novice, the tours will cater to your needs.Â
