2 Be entertained on Grafton Street

One of the top things to do in Dublin is to explore Grafton Street. This vibrant pedestrianised street is located in the heart of the city and offers many exciting activities and experiences. From shopping at renowned stores to enjoying live street performances by talented buskers, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Strolling along Grafton Street allows you to soak up the lively atmosphere and immerse yourself in the city’s energy. 

3 Rub the Molly Malone statue

Now located on Suffolk Street, this bronze statue pays tribute to the legendary figure of Molly Malone, a character from Dublin’s traditional ballad. The reason for rubbing her is steeped in folklore and superstition. It is believed that rubbing Molly Malone’s bosom brings good luck and fertility. Standing there, gazing at the statue, one can’t help but appreciate the spirit and resilience of the city’s strong-willed women, embodied by Molly Malone herself.

Special Mention: The Molly Malone Statue was once located on Grafton Street but has since moved to its new location on Suffolk Street. 

4 Explore The National Museum of Ireland

When visiting Dublin’s National History Museum, there are countless things to discover and admire. Visiting Oscar Wilde’s home on Merrion Square was one of my favourite places to visit. As you approach the elegant Georgian townhouse, you can almost envision the renowned playwright gracing his home with charm and wit. Stepping inside, you are transported back to Wilde’s era, with rooms beautifully restored and filled with his original possessions. Merrion Square is a lovely park surrounded by impressive Georgian buildings and is home to a striking statue of Oscar Wilde. Adorned in his signature flamboyant attire, the sculpture captures his essence and adds to the enchanting atmosphere of the square. Standing before the statue, you can admire the legacy of a literary genius and reflect on his lasting impact on literature and society.

6 Taste the world-famous Guinness beer

Stepping inside the iconic building of the Guinness storehouse, you are immediately immersed in the rich history and craftsmanship that has shaped the iconic Guinness beer. The tour takes you through seven floors, each presenting a different aspect of the brewing process, from the ingredients used to the unique fermentation techniques. Along the way, you’ll learn about the Guinness family and their philanthropic endeavours and witness the artistry behind creating that perfect pint. I can not go past recommending Gallagher’s Boxty for the best Irish Stew I have tried, and you should take advantage of the opportunity to indulge in their renowned Irish stew. The slow-cooked meat becomes beautifully tender and succulent, while the vegetables retain their natural flavours and add texture to every bite. The rich, flavourful broth that envelops the stew results from combining the perfect balance of ingredients and allowing it to simmer for hours. With every spoonful, you can savour the hearty warmth of Irish hospitality and taste the care and passion that goes into creating this traditional masterpiece at Gallagher’s Boxty.

Visiting St. James Church before embarking on the Camino journey holds immense significance. The church provides a tranquil environment for prayer and reflection before starting your journey to Santiago De Compostela. Here, amidst the ancient stones and decorative artifacts, you can seek blessings, receive their Camino passport and set your intentions for a transformative and meaningful journey.

If you are planning a trip to Dublin, one place you cannot miss is the Christ Church Cathedral. With its stunning architectural beauty, rich history, and significant cultural importance, the cathedral offers a truly unforgettable experience. Christ Church Cathedral is an iconic symbol of Dublin’s heritage. Dating back to the 11th century, this magnificent Gothic-style cathedral has witnessed numerous historical events, making it a treasure trove of stories and traditions. Whether you are interested in religious history or architecture or simply immersing yourself in the past, the cathedral’s walls hold centuries of secrets waiting to be explored.

Visiting the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin is excellent for those seeking a tranquil escape. Located just three kilometres from the city centre, the gardens offer a vast collection of plant species worldwide, meticulously displayed in stunningly manicured landscapes. Walking through the various glasshouses is like stepping into different climatic zones, each housing a unique array of exotic plants. The highlight of the visit is the Victorian Palm House, a magnificent iron structure filled with towering palm trees and vibrant displays of tropical flora. Entry into the gardens is free. The extensive grounds also feature beautifully laid-out flower beds, serene lakes, and peaceful walks, making it a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation amidst the bustling city.

15 Enjoy a walk through Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is an iconic destination renowned for its rich history and natural beauty. As one of Europe’s largest walled city parks, it welcomes thousands of people each year. The park holds great significance for Irish history as well as serving as a refreshing oasis in the heart of the bustling city. Its exquisite landscapes, including serene woodlands, open meadows, and tranquil lakes, offer a respite from urban life. Phoenix Park is home to many historical monuments, such as the Wellington Monument and the Papal Cross, commemorating significant events and personalities of Irish history.
