Batam is the ultimate hop, skip, and jump from Singapore, making it an ideal place for a quick weekend getaway. Forget the planning headaches; most people take the ferry for affordable spa treatments or a round of golf. But if you’re like me, you want more than a day trip—you want a true escape from the hustle and bustle.
This is your guide to enjoying an entire relaxing weekend in Batam, organised with all the key details you need to know.

Accommodation: Your Bali-Style Escape 🏠
For me, a trip to Batam simply must include Tempat Senang Spa Resort and Restaurant. Tucked away on the island’s quieter side, its Balinese architecture and beautiful surroundings can easily make you forget you’re not in Bali. The resort’s spa treatments are a big bonus, but the themed rooms mean you can come back repeatedly and have a different experience each time.

Practical Note: Tempat Senang is on the other side of the island from the main downtown area. To make your trips more convenient, I’ve found that hiring a taxi by the hour is both easy and affordable. Just ask the hotel staff to arrange it for you.
The True Purpose: Indulgent Spa Time 🧖♀️
Let’s be honest, most of us come to Batam for the inexpensive, relaxing, and indulgent spa treatments. The resort is famous for its comprehensive packages:
- 3-Hour Bliss: Choose three different treatments and mix them up—think massages, pedicures, or facials.
- 6-Hour Pure Heaven: This is truly a full day dedicated to you, allowing you to choose six treatments. They even incorporate a meal, so you can have lunch and dinner while being pampered.
The complimentary transport service from the ferry terminal to the resort just adds that touch of luxury.
Once you’re completely relaxed, it’s time to explore the rest of the island.

Food and Fun Beyond the Spa 🍽️
- Fine Dining: The six-course meal at the Tempat Senang restaurant is worth the splurge. Each course comes from a different country and just keeps getting better. My favourite advice is not to overindulge early; save room for dessert!
- Affordable Golf: If you enjoy a swing, Indah Puri Golf Course is just five minutes from the resort and is highly affordable for all levels.

- Sightseeing: Ask your taxi driver to take you to the Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Buddhist Temple—it’s the largest in Indonesia. Later, head to the Barelang Bridge at sunset for local snacks like roasted corn.
- Shopping: A trip isn’t complete without visiting Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall. It’s the largest on the island, but if you want something smaller, try Mega Mall Batam Centre.

Planning & Safety: Before you go, check if you need an Indonesian visa. iVisa is a quick way to get your online visa. Also, I’ve found that having comprehensive travel insurance saves so much worry; I use SafetyWings Travel Insurance.
